Barbara Rose Brooker has an MA in creative writing. Her fiction, nonfiction and poetry have been published by William Morrow, Crossing, and other presses. Currently, she has a novel in the process of publication. She has taught creative writing and seminars and workshops at SFSU extended education, SF City College, The Learning Annex, and at private seminars. Barbara Rose Brooker believes that writing and painting are one story. She works in mixed media and is interested in conveying story, characterization, and emotions through gesture and paint and color.
Barbara Rose says, "I am an author and painter. In my paintings, and writing, I want to convey emotion and story through paint and gesture and color. I don’t want anything resolved. I want the surfaces to be beautiful and to imply other surfaces underneath. The line is very important and connects my ideas, emotions and story. In my writing, and painting, personal voice is the most important."
On commission Barbara Rose works with the client, and based on their themes, characterizations, ideas, she develops paintings. She has had two solo exhibits at the California Modern Gallery, in 2005, 2008, 2007, a show in Oakland, and currently two shows are in process.
Barbara Rose’s paintings are in a wide range of Bay Area and California collections and around the US.
Hand in hand she writes and paints. She believes that everyone has creativity. "Anyone can do it," she says. She teaches seminars and workshops on writing.
